Red Masquerade Mask

I began experimenting with Halloween makeup today, and some of the stuff that has inspired me are the awesome masks I have seen, namely by Angie (goldiestarling) on Youtube. Anyone who knows me knows I have a thing for masquerades, balls, costumes, corsets and the like. As this is just experimenting, and I do have to get ready for work soon, I didn't cover my eyebrows and what-not for this look.

  2. Arien van Weesenbeek (Epica, MaYan) note: I only listed bands he's done vocals in, he is the drummer of said bands, and has been drummer of a few others. He's not a main vocalist, but I do love his growls :)
  3. Roy Khan (ex-Kamelot, ex-Conception)
  4. Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann (Eluveitie)
  5. Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth)
  6. David Draiman (Disturbed)

So, that's my top 20 vocalists, broken down into male and female categories.

LUSH haul :) In-store

I went to LUSH on Thursday. :) First time in a LUSH store, I've only previously ever ordered online from them. I went to the one on Queen Street in Toronto. I needed some new skincare stuff as I was running out of my Imperialis moisturizer, and I was finding that the Aqua Marina was drying out my skin a little too much. I was basically like a little kid in a candy shop lol, and I was just like "I want this, and this, and this..." and basically dropping quite a few things into my basket. Let's just say that between me and my sister we spent a LOT of money in this store I found the staff to be really helpful and friendly, and not at all pushy like some people have said LUSH employees can be (the pushy thing is hearsay, not my personal experience). In fact, they were really good at letting us be until we looked liked we needed some help.

~Anything in quotations is directly from the website, all pictures are either from lush.ca or found in Google images. I do not own them. Also, all links given refer to the lush.ca website, and if you live in a different country, just go to lush.com and it will allow you to choose your country.~

So here are the things I got for myself:

Angels on Bare Skin cleanser: http://bit.ly/eoihKY
"Angelic cleanser sent from heaven."
I got AOBS because I was finding that Aqua Marina seemed to be drying out my skin a bit, and also left behind a bit of residue after cleansing with it. It was great for helping with redness, but the dryness and residue just wasn't working for me.
AOBS is a little bit exfoliating, and it's also supposed to be soothing for the skin: "Rose oil and lavender oil are wonderfully toning, while the gentle exfoliation of the almonds helps to keep the skin clear and improve the texture of the skin."
The smell of this is ok, it's a bit floral, and a bit nutty. Aqua Marina smells much nicer in my opinion, but AOBS is ok. It's not great, but it doesn't stink. I've only used this once, but my face was so soft and smooth after using it.

Eau Roma Water :  http://bit.ly/e7rlis
"Gentle rose water for dry skin."
Eau Roma is a toner made with lavender and rose water. It's is supposed to be gentle, soothing, help retain moisture, and even out skin tone. (I really like that last part as I always get redness on my cheeks near my nose.) "Lavender helps skin to produce the right amount of sebum to keep it more supple. Wealthy ladies of leisure in Ancient Rome would have something very similar to Eau Roma water to take to the public baths."
This stuff smells exactly like AOBS, as both contain rose and lavender. Again, not a bad smell, but not my fave either. It's very cooling when spritzed on the skin. Same as AOBS, so far I have only used this once, so I'll see how this works over time.

Celestial Moisturizer:http://bit.ly/fZoYie
"Heavenly moisturizer for sensitive skin."
Celestial contains almond milk and vanilla water. I bought this instead of repurchasing Imperalis because as the weather slowly started to get warmer, I was finding Imperalis to be slightly greasy feeling on my face and because I wanted to see if this would help with the redness I get. Celestial is supposed to to a lightweight moisturizer for sensitive skin. "Almond milk is wonderful for calming irritated skin. This moisturizer helps to create a light barrier and keeps skin in good condition."
It has an amazing light vanilla scent. This actually feels thicker than Imperialis in the pot, but when I smooth it on my face it seems to absorb better, and it feels really light.

Love Lettuce fresh face mask:
LUSH face masks are only available in-store in North America, because they need refrigeration. The LUSH UK will ship them in the UK. Here's the link to the UK site to read about it: http://bit.ly/glOFVa
The girl at LUSH recommended this one to me. I have combination skin that can't decide whether it's dry or oily at times, but tends to lean towards dry ~most~ of the time. However, my dry and oily patches are not really patches, cuz I'll have an oily spot that has dry flaky skin in the middle. My skin is weird.
Love Lettuce contains Fuller's Earth, kaolin, ground almonds and almond shells, agar agar seaweed, almond oil, lavender and chlorophyll. Noticing a pattern here? Almonds and/or lavender or rose seem to be in most of the face products I bought. This mask is exfoliating due to the almonds as well as deep cleaning from the clays. I've used this once so far. I think mine expires on April 18th, so I'll be sure to finish the pot before then. One use only took up about 1/4 -1/3 of it.

Sea Vegetable soap: http://bit.ly/gfkYMa
I got a sample of Sea Veg in my first LUSH order, and I fell in love with it. It's got lime, lavender and seaweed in it, and it smells absoloutely divine. I LOVE this soap...which would be why I got a huge $30 chunk of it :P "A refreshing splash in the ocean. Sea Vegetable is made with seaweed, one of our favourite ingredients, with a crust of stimulating sea salt to give your body a good scrub down."

13 (Unlucky for dirt) soap: http://bit.ly/dQfSxK
"Cleansing herbal warrior."
13 is has a rose petal and oregano infusion as well as oregano oil.  "The infusion of rose petals and oregano forms a soothing floral base that has mild antibacterial properties." Oil of oregano has been shown to have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, here is a link to more about it ( http://bit.ly/jsZ3n ).
This soap smells very strongly of oregano, but the rose is there, under it. It's a very interesting smell, and I would definitely recommend that you smell it in the store before purchasing. It's probably not a scent for everyone. I do like it, but I don't think I could use it all the time, as I wouldn't always want my hands to be smelling of oregano. However, I think I will try this instead of tea tree soap for washing my feet. I always wash my feet with tea tree soap as a preventive measure because I work long hours standing in hot, sweaty shoes, and we all know that bacteria love moist dark places, and tea tree is antibacterial, anti-fungal and such. So, I'll see if this oregano soap works as well in that area.

Demon in The Dark soap: http://bit.ly/hTcdw1
"A fresh and minty little demon."
Demon in the dark is made with mint and apple, and it smells really good. "Spearmint essential oil cools and makes the skin tingle," while apple juice "refreshes and gently cleanses the skin." The soap is a dark, dark green and there's green-yellow bits in it. It's covered in a layer of black wax, which is to be removed before using the soap. Don't want to be rubbing black wax all over the skin now do we? (This is actually an issue, as some users do not remove it, and then say the soap sucked because it left black marks all over the skin.) So, remove the wax first. This is actually very easy to do as long as the soap is cool. It's harder to remove is the soap is warmer. My apartment building is very very warm all the time(I hate it), so within about 15 minutes of the soap being inside, the wax started to soften a little, making it harder to remove. I love the smell of this, but haven't used it yet, so I don't know how it will smell on my skin. I can't wait to try it though.

Sexy Peel soap: http://bit.ly/11gOzY
"Citrus juices for sex appeal."
I actually didn't purchase Sexy Peel, my sister did. I swapped her a chunk of my Sea Veg for a chunk of this.
Sexy Peel is made with the peels of limes, lemons and oranges, as well as orange juice. The peels are lightly exfoliating, and the soap is very much a morning soap, because getting blasted with the smell of citrus will definitely wake you up.
"A wash with Sexy Peel soap will bring you back for breakfast. Fresh lemon, grapefruit and lime juice wash away sleepiness and get you breathing in revitalising fruitiness." It's a very refreshing scent, and I love the smell. Can't wait to use this one.

Geo Phyzz bath bomb:http://bit.ly/aY672Y
"Salt of the Earth."
This is my second time purchasing Geo Phyzz, because I love this bomb. I bought two. I took a bath with one of these and 1/2 a Floating Island last night, which is a really good blend of scents. I reviewed this cocktail the first time I did it which can be found here: Woodsy Heaven. I love the combination of those two scents.
Geo Phyzz is made with Hawaiian sea salt which is coated in volcanic clay. "The volcanic salt is loaded with minerals, softens the body and relaxes muscles." It's scented with pine, cypress and sandalwood which "conjure thoughts of bathing in the warm sea as the breeze gently skims the shoreline." It is indeed a very relaxing scent and I feel much better after a bath with it. One thing to note with Geo Phyzz is that it is a mini bomb, but the scent and colour is still strong.

Dragon's Egg bath bomb: http://bit.ly/gEl7cl
"Magical fireworks extravaganza."
Dragon's egg is a citrus scented colourful bath bomb. It's made with lemon oil and bergamot oil. "As you bathe in the whirlpool of vibrant, fiery colour and inhale the refreshing sherbet scent of lemon and bergamot, you'll feel like you're up and away on the back of your own dragon."
My sister has tried this bomb before, and said it fizzes nicely, is very colourful, and it has glitter in the center . I'm not a huge fan of glitter, but I wanted to try this because I love the smell of it. So, as with most of the stuff on this list, I'll review it after I use it.

Big Blue bath bomb: http://bit.ly/aPPyMA
"A soothing, salty dip in the blue."
Big Blue has sea salt, seaweed absolute, and arame seaweed in it. It's scented with lemon and lavender.
"Lemon and lavender oils help to clear your mind, complete with skin-softening seaweed and sea salt to help you float away in your own warm, blue ocean of inspiration."
I've read some reviews on this bomb, and if you don't like things floating in your bath, wrap a nylon or some other type of mesh material round it before you toss it in because it has actual pieces of seaweed in it. I plan to use it as is, because I want the whole experience. This smells amazing, I can't wait to try it.

Sakura bath bomb: http://bit.ly/2UN4gb

"Float on a bed of flowers."
Sakura is scented with mimosa and jasmine "to give you the joyful feeling of springtime, whenever you need it." It smells really nice, very soft and floral.
Fine seas salt is used to decorate it, and in this picture, it looks like there's a fair bit of it inside the bomb as well as on top. Mine is more white, with just a small amount of specks inside, and then some on the top. I'm excited to try this, but I'll definitely have to be in the mood for something floral, as I'm not a huge jasmine fan. LUSH jasmine products are more tolerable or likeable to me than any others. I don't like jasmine at all from other brands.

Amandopondo bubble bar: http://bit.ly/f0WJsE

"A bubble bouquet for forgiveness."
Amandopondo is a creamy textured little round cream coloured bubble bar. It smells like rose and citrus and has a very nice, soft fragrance.
"Amandopondo is scented with rose absolute and a twist of lemon and orange oils. Each little cream pillow of this Bubble Bar has a rosebud on top to symbolize an appeal for forgiveness."
I find the little rosebud to be very cute, and I can't wait to use this. It just smells so nice and soft, and the rose is not too overpowering or sickly sweet like some rose smells can be. It's a very relaxing scent.

 The Comforter bubble bar: http://bit.ly/I9wvJ

"Comforting blackcurrant bubbles."
The Comforter is a huge bubble bar. It is meant for two uses, and it smells so good. The scent is a rich, sweet, comforting smell. It contains cassis absolute and cypress oil.
"This fruity bubble bar gives the feeling of being hugged by a jolly blackcurrant. When life is getting you down, crumble The Comforter under hot, running water for purple water and creamy bubbles. It was created to bring a real sense of comfort to people."
I'm looking forward to using this. The girl at LUSH recommended that I try using it with a Vanilla Fountain bath bomb, but since I already had gotten so much stuff, I decided to leave that for next time.

Ceridwen's Cauldron bath melt: http://bit.ly/eYxcw3

"Magical bath melt."
This smells absoloutely amazing. It's scented with lavender and sandalwood, and it's such an amazing smell. It also has oats and cocoa butter in it. You don't undo the muslin, you just drop it in.
"Cocoa butter and walnut oil melt into the bath-water, frothing slightly, leaving you a muslin bag of whole oats to give your skin a soothing and gently scented scrub."
I really, really like this scent, and I wish I had grabbed more than one. I'm very excited to use this one.

Limited Edition Perfume kit: http://bit.ly/fQhCpC

This kit contains eight 2mL vials, each a different scent. It's perfect because you can try all of their scents and see which ones you like the best. Right now, I'm just going to list what they're comprised of, without my opinion on them. I'll review them later. The kit comes with the following:

Breath of God: Neroli, lemon, melon, jasmine, rose, vetivert, sandalwood, cedarwood, amber, musk.
It consists of two fragrances: "one based on the smoky scents from the Tibetan temples (Exhale), and the other inspired by the fresh clean air of the mountains (Inhale)." You can buy Inhale and Exhale individually from the UK site.
The Smell of Freedom: Lemongrass, lemon myrtle, neroli, jasmine, ginger, fire tree, clove, black pepper, sandalwood, oudh, orris. It's made up of three individual scents, and "opens with a fresh, herbal accord and reveals its complex, spicy and woody nature as it warms on your skin."
Tuca Tuca: Cassie, vanilla, sandalwood, vetivert, violet leaf, ylang ylang. "Tuca Tuca is whimsical; it teases with a fantasy violet accord and works its way into your subconscious. The perfume perfectly conveys the playful and seductive nature of the pop-song and the dance it's based on"
Imogen Rose: Rose, bergamot, vetivert, ambrette seed, tonka, orris. "Real rose oil and absolute in amounts that nobody in their right mind would use; a soft, exquisite, powdery amber accord and ...dry, woody vetivert notes..."
Vanillary: Vanilla, jasmine, tonka. The sweet and sensual real vanilla and jasmine absolutes are supported by the burnt caramel-like scent of tonka bean."
Orange Blossom: Orange blossom, neroli, rosewood, ylang ylang, sandalwood, beeswax. "Fresh orange blossom absolute and neroli oil burst out of the bottle like a distilled Mediterranean moment. Over time, the honeyed and woody tones develop on your skin and you're left with a warm glow."
Lust: Jasmine, ylang ylang, rose, vanilla, sandalwood. "Unashamedly carnal jasmine."
Karma: Orange, patchouli, pine, lavandin, lemongrass, elemi, cassie. "Retro yet ageless, Karma is a powerful, spicy and unique patchouli and citrus perfume."

So, those are all the things I bought for myself during this LUSH trip. I also bought Twilight, Amandopondo, and Blackberry as a gift for a friend who loves baths and had recently broken her toe and definitely needed to relax after work. Twilight bath bomb has lavender, tonka, and ylang ylang. It's a very relaxing scent, and my friend loves lavender. Amandopondo is mentioned above, it's rose and lemon. Blackberry bath bomb is, well, blackberry scented, and also contains bergamot and frankincense.

Blackberry: http://bit.ly/gzt3Kz --->

I will review things as I use them, and I'll review skincare products after a month or so. I'll do an Aqua Marina review soon, since I was using that for over a month now. That's all for now.

Woodsy Heaven

I was in a really bad mood earlier today, so I felt like I needed a bath or something to relax me and just lift my mood.  I still hadn't used my LUSH Geo Phyzz bath bomb, so I decided to try that today. Since I have dry skin and using bath bombs usually dries out my skin even more, I decided to add a bath melt to it. I ended up using 1 Geo Phyzz bath bomb and 1/2 of a Floating Island Bath Melt. I didn't want to use the whole melt because, to me, Floating Island has a bit of a playdough-y after-scent to it, which I don't like.
Floating Island
Geo Phyzz

I dropped the bath bomb in first and as it was fizzing away, the water started turning this really pretty clear green colour, and the salts in the bomb were visible at the bottom. Immediately the woodsy scent of pine and cypress filled the bathroom. I dropped the bath melt in after that, and it turned the water a little opaque, and made a light creamy foam on top, and the water smelled amazing. On the LUSH site is says that Floating Island has a vanilla scent with a hint of lemon, and it also has sandalwood int it. I didn't smell any of the vanilla, just the sandalwood and lemon. The resulting smell was an earthy, woodsy scent with just a touch of lemon. I love it. This has got to be the best smelling bath I have ever taken, and it was relaxing, and put me in a much better mood.

The only complaint I have is that the scent doesn't linger all that long on the skin after. But I love this combination and will definitely have to buy more of both products.

EOS and Drugstore Makeup

My eos order came today. All of the lip balms smell so good. I can't even pick a favourite.

I got the Smooth Spheres in Lemon Drop, Honeysuckle Honeydew, Summer Fruit and Sweet Mint. They all smell amazing. The Lemon Drop reminds me of lemon meringue pie, or lemon bars, but without that little egg-y scent. I think I'm going to keep the Lemon Drop in my purse daily because it has SPF in it, and rotate through the other one's depending on my mood.

I love the feel of these when you put them on. They aren't thick or waxy feeling, the just glide smoothly onto the lips. A lot of lip balms dry out on my within like 30-45 min, I've been wearing this for over an hour, and my lips still feel moisturized.

Also today I picked up Marcelle Wet & Dry Eyeshadow in Naked Truth. This is the perfect skin tone colour for me, and it's a little luminous, but not shimmery, so it gives that 'my skin but better' look for my eyelids.

I also got Rimmel Match Perfection Skin Tone Adapting Concealer in 010 Ivory. I'm not sure about this, it seems a little off for my skin tone, but the 2 other shades were both too dark.

Another item I got was the Wet n Wild Mega Glo Illuminating Powder in 347 Spotlight Peach. It has 4 different strips of colour in it. There's a light peach, a dark rosy peach, a peachy-bronze, and a light shimmery rosy peach. I tried this today, and I like mixing the light peach and the light rosy-peach to give a natural glow to my cheeks.

The final item I bought today was the EcoTools 5 pc brush set. They're travel size brushes and it comes with a mineral powder brush, a concealer brush, eye shading brush, a baby kabuki and a cosmetic bag. I've only ever tried the kabuki brush before, and I loved it. My sister has this set and she uses it all the time, so I decided to get my own.

Now, back to my previous post about the bareMinerals foundation. I took the Medium Beige back to the store, it was too dark and too pink for my skin tone. I got re-matched and my colour is now Golden Fair. This blends perfectly on me, and I love it. My skintone is very tricky to match because I look more medium than light/fair at first glance, but when I try to match foundations, I usually end up in the light end of the spectrum. I will probably need a different colour once summer comes and I start getting some colour to my skin. I hate tanning. Absolutely hate it. The only tan I get is whatever I get while walking outside. I do not like to bake in the sun, and I don't fake tan. Unfortunately, I can get quite a tan just walking to work and around town. Like several shades darker than my untanned skin. Back on topic, I also returned the handy buki brush, because it was shedding on my face, and got a refund for that.

Anyways, that's all for today.

Bare Minerals and Shopper's 'Beauty Boutique'

I started using the Imperialis moisturizer from LUSH yesterday, and previously, my moisturizers all contained SPF. Imperialis does not, so I was looking for something to use with SPF in it. I get sunburned without using at least SPF 15, even in the winter.

I browsed online for a while and I saw that Bare Escentuals has a SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen powder. So I called up Shopper's Drug Mart in my town, and they didn't have anything. I called the one the next town over, and they said that they didn't have the sunscreen powder, but the foundations also have a natural SPF in them. I went down there, and this Shopper's doesn't just have a makeup section with one counter, they have a 'Beauty Boutique'. All of the makeup is organized by brand in nice displays in a separate section of the store, and they will even colour match foundations for you and allow you to test pretty much any product you want, which is not how the Shopper's in my town is.

There were two women working there, and they were both really helpful and nice. She started by matching me to one of the darker medium colours, but quickly went into the lighter mediums. My skin has a very golden tone to it, and is really hard to match foundations to. Anyways so I got matched with 2N Medium Beige. She also told me if the colour didn't seem right, I could bring it back, and get matched with another colour. I think I may end up having to do this, since I think I need a warmer colour, perhaps Golden Medium. I noticed that this looks a little pink on me (it's a neutral tone), and my sister said the same thing. So I'll wear it for another day or so, and see if I still think it's too pink.

So, I came home today with bareMinerals  Matte SPF 15 foundation in 2N Medium beige, the bareMinerals Mineral Veil and the handy buki brush. Also, I'm scheduled in for their Bare Escentuals event next weekend.

I'll do a review on these after I use them for a while, and update if I switch to a different shade.

Quick Update: LUSH order

My latest LUSH order came in today. This is my first impressions of the products I ordered.

1. Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar:
I don't like the smell of this. The smell somehow reminds me of herring. It has cinnamon leaf oil and peppermint oil in it, but I'm getting very strong scents of clove. I don't like cloves in large quantities, the smell bothers me. The site doesn't list cloves, but they list 'perfume'. I'll see how this works for relieving sore muscles, but first impression is an intense clove-y, herring-like smell.

2.Geo Phyzz bath bomb:
When the package arrived, this bomb was a little battered. It wasn't cracked or anything, but had some crushed bath bomb powder coming off it and collecting in the bottom of the little bag it's in. It smells like evergreens, it's a little strong, but it will probably be less strong in the bath. It's a pretty green colour with little specks of red Hawaiian sea salt in it. I'm looking forward to using this.

3. Gentle Lentil solid shampoo bar:
This has a strong sweet, creamy smell to it, with a bit of a floral scent as well. I was trying to place the floral scent and I think it may be jasmine, but I could be wrong. I like the smell, but it's a little too strong, especially the floral bit. But I think it will be nice after a shower when it's not as strong in the hair. The bar is a pale cream colour with specks of lentils in it. I'm excited to use this to see how it works on my very dry curly hair.

4. Okra conditioner:
This is a Retro product. The first four ingredients are okra infusion, corn silk infusion, nettle infusion and mountain grape decoction. Also in the product is lavender oil and rosemary oil. When I first took off the lid to remove the tab closing it and sniffed I got a very strong whiff of herbs. Sniffing it through the flip cap, it's not quite as strong. I do like the scent, it's very herbal, which I'm used to from the conditioner I have been using for a while now. The colour is sort of a dark cream colour. The one thing I don't like is that it lists sodium lauryl sulfate in it. That's usually used in shampoos to make them lather, I don't see the necessity in a conditioner. Also the sodium and sulfates are not good for your hair. I'll see how this works. My previous shampoo and conditioner were sulfate free.

5.Token to the Forest Gods toner/sauna tab:
This is a cute green little tab, mine has a star shape on the top of it. It smells kinda like citrus and Fruit Loops, and the colour is reminiscent of the lime Fruit Loops. I do like the smell, and I'm excited to use this.

6. Aqua Marina cleanser:
My piece doesn't look as neat as the pictures on the lush website, but I didn't by this for the looks. I bought it because it contains calamine, aloe vera, and seaweed. I get redness around my nose and sometimes my cheeks, and calamine and aloe vera are soothing. The scent is a little strong, the cleanser has sweet orange oil as well as patchouli oil in it, but I do like it, and I normally hate strong scents. I'm scent sensitive since using Yasmin, and I tend to get migraines with strong scents. The cleanser is very creamy, and has a mousse-like texture and it's wrapped in seaweed. It also contains kaolin for it's skin-tightening properties. I really hope this works for me, because I hate the redness I get on my face.

7. Imperalis moisturizer:
This is very small, smaller than I thought it would be, and at nearly $23 a pot, it better work well. It's "made with lavender, orange flowers and tiger lilies to create well balanced skin." It's good for combination skin. The colour of this moisturizer is a pale creamy pink similar to the colour of Aqua Marina. The floral scents are not overpowering, but definitely there. I do like the smell of this.

So those are all the LUSH products I ordered for myself. I will say that I do like the scent of The Smell of Freedom perfume my sister got. It's strong, but nice and I may purchase the solid, but I'd like to smell the solid in a LUSH store first, since the solid is $12.95(CAD). I will write a review after using these products for a while, and seeing how well they agree with my skin and hair. I'll probably do a separate mini-review for Geo Phyzz since that's a one time use thing, and not a skincare product.

Oh and before I forget, they included 2 samples with the order again. Porridge soap, and Banana Moon soap. Porridge smells AMAZING. It's got a sweet, creamy, sugar and molasses type smell. I cannot stop smelling this soap. I am definitely buying some of this. The Banana Moon soap smells like, well, bananas. The little sticker on it says 'guaranteed monkey business with moisturizing bananas and yoghurt'. It's an ok smell, but it kind of reminds me of little kids and banana lollipops, and mashed banana and things like that. Not a smell I want all over my body, but it might be great for people with kids. I could definitely see kids liking the scent.

So that's all for now.
